L. Grimes, of this city, who has been visiting with his brother for the last year, left on last express en route to Denver, Colorado. Mr. Grimes, who has been in poor health for some time, will visit Colorado In hope that his illness will be cnred by tbe climate of that state. His many friends in Rapid City will be pleased to learn that his hopes have been realized.

Aorosa Country. A large number of Rapid City people left early yesterday morning by wagon across the country for Pierre, Among the number were Dr. T. M'Giily cuddy, William Uramberg, Judge Now-in, John F. Schrader, George Wells and Frank Lockhart.

Tbe party go to attend the meeting of the first legislature, and looking after business matters, political and otherwise. Library Hall promises to be crowded on Monday evening next, the date set for tbe appearance of tbe Royce and Lansing Comedy company. On Us previous visit to Rapi 1 City the company created a very favorable impression, and on its second visit is sure to draw a crowded bouse. Its membership baa been aaded to since it was here before, and it is now one of the strongest and most successful companies on tbe road. Beeidea the member elected to the legislature from Mead, Butte and Lawrence counties, large delegations were on board from those counties a bo make the trip having in view the consummation of political schemes.

Major A. J. Simmons, of this city, and Captain O. V. Gardner, of Spring Valley, boarded the train at tbe depot and will accompany the delegations to Pierre.

An eitra aleeper waa attached to tbe train at this city in order to accommodate the crowd. It was a lively crowd and there is no danger that time will bang heavily on its bands during the trip. Th Supreme Court, Tbe supreme court for Dakota territory is a thing of the past. The last session of that body was held at Dead-wood Wednesday night. A full bench was present, and when it adjourned it went out of existence.

Tbe next session of tbe supreme court held in Booth Dakota wilt convene by authority of tbe state, and will be presided over by judges elected by tbe people from among themselves. Tbe members of the court were paasengers on on the east bound train last evening. A Praise Meeting. The Journal is in receipt of a circular from tbe Non-partisan Constitutional Prohibition organisAtion of South Dakota which states that a grand praise meeting of tbe prohibitionists ol South Dakota, will be held at Pierre, commencing Monday evening, October 14, at 8 o'clock p. m.

This meeting is called by the Non-partisan Constitutional Prohibition organization, that South Dakota may make acknowledgement and return thanks in a manner commensurate with the magnitude of tbe blessings received. At tbe same time arrangements will be made for clearing up tbe recent campaign; and also a principle to be defined and a line of policy adopted with reference to future legislation for the due enforcement of tbe prohibitory amendment. A new and permanent organisation will be effected. Prohibitionists of South Dakota without regard to religion or creed or party affiliations are invited to be present in large numbers. On a Visit.

P. J. Quintmeyer and wife, of Water-town, Wisconsin, were arrivals on the passenger this morning. Mr. Quintmeyer is a brother-in-law of Postmaster Schnasse, of this city, and he and bis will visit for a short time with Mr.

Schnasse and family, A Sad Affair. Further particulars of tbe boy Myers, killed in Boulder canyon a few days since, are as follows; Father and son came from the ranch on Lower Bare Butte to tbe Beaver saw mill in Boulder canyon, for a load of lumber, with a couple of yoke of oxen. Tbe lumber was loaded, and tbey started on their return. In going down a bill, tbe brake gave out, letting tbe wagon run on to tbe oxen, which became frightened and started on a run. The boy jumped from tbe load when tbe brake broke, and tried to stop the oxen, and in his effort was knocked down and fairly trampled to death.

The father finally stopped the frightened animals, and retraced his steps, looking for his boy, whom he found as above stated, crushed to death. Being a new comer to the country, he waa unacquainted, unable to speak a word of English, and not knowing what to do, remained with his dead boy In the canyon all night. As soon as daylight came, be went with the corpse to Billy Myera ranch on Bear Butle, and from there to his own place, where tbe boy was buried. The family came to tbe Hilts from the old country about a year ago, and are spoken highly of by their neighbors. Deadwood Times.

am four pairs of gloves from Morria and Company's dry goods store Wednesday evening, wsa tried yesterday morning on tbe charge. He was found guilty and sentenced to psy a floe of ten dollars and costs. Jl'DOB WALLACE. The case of Edwin Farmer versus A. J.

Mosier occupied the attention of the court all of yesterday, and not being finished at a late hour waa adjourned until nine o'clock this morning. The suit ia brought by Farmar for tbe recovery of a mare now in Mosier'a pos session, which he claims bad either been stolen or bad strayed away from bis ranch last year. Rome question existed as to whether tbe mare sought to be replevined is tbe one lost by Farmar, and a number of witnesses were examined yeaterday, all of whom readily identified tbe mare as tbe animal owned by Farmer. An order was received Monday at Fort Meade from the war department prohibiting post-traders from selling beer and wine on government reservations.

This will do away with all such drinks at post-traders stores but will not close canteens operated by the sol diers. Tbis is the first step towards national prohibition in prohibition states. Advertiser. During the next three weeks at least Pierre will be one of the liveliest cities in tbe northwest. The Black Hills contingent will help to make things move, for they are all rustlers, and tbe fact that they are in tbe city will not have to be advertised from the bouse tops.

Tbe operations being carried on at the Rapid River Milling company plant and at tbe new Presbyterian church building attracts the nsual crowds daily. The work at both places is progressing rapidly and to the satis faction of the spectators who congre gate around tho scenes of work. At the city election held in Spear fish last Tuesday to fill the position of treasurer, made vacant by the resigna tion of Jack Bishop, Frank Overman, who is well known throughout the Hills, was chosen without a vote hav ing been cast against bim. He was the only candidate. C.

F. Geenen haa completed his slaughter bouse and is now killing his own meats. Ha has one of tbe best establishments in tbe west and it is his intention to keep adding to it as his business increases. Tbe incoming passenger train was three hours late yesterday morning. Tbe delay was caused by a heavy train and the large amount of traffic at pres ent passing over the road east of Cbadron.

The saddle which rests on a wooden horse in front of Will Freschl's store is a favorite resting place for Ulers, and at any hour of the day some one can be seen trying it on, just to see how it fits. Among the passengers on the east bound express yesterday afternoon were General A. R. Z. Dawson, Rev.

B. Commings, Sol Star, Kirk Phillips, Jim Carney, Frank Washabaogb and EdGalvin. Clarke and Boyd have been adding improvements to the interior arrange ment of their law office, and now have Modern Woodmen. There will be a meeting of tbe Rapid City lodge of Modern woodmen this evening at tbelr hall at tbe usual hour. A full attendance Is desired.

The board of county commissioners met yesterday and spent most of tbe time in a discussion of road matters. No action was taken upon the petition to redistrlct the county, so that the population would be equally represented on tbe board of county commis sioners. W. Bangs, state senator elect from Pennington county is expected to arrive on the passenger train from the east this morning.
