Put the law is not solely responsible for the falling oil in immigration. There are several causes that have militated against the country through which Cic F.Ik horn route lies, and the Black Hills in particular. One of these is the fact that great inducement has been held out to people to settle in Northern Kansas and Southern Nebraska. Another that all the cities along the Missouri river have made extra endeavurg to secure the investment of every dollar of avail-j able capital. And one of the greatest is the fact that the crops in this imme-jdiate section were a failure last fall.

Rather Amusing. It partakes somew hat of the nature of comedy, at least it presents some very ludicrous features, this argument and excitement oyer the extension of the railroad. I 'ml i paper printed in the II ills above Rapid City has its ow dclimtc and reliable inlurmatiou concerning the intentions of the company, and does not hesitate to publish them to the world. It does not matter if the idea of each paper is dillerotit from that of any of he ot hers. It is published just the same.

And the Rapid City papers get roundly abused because they do not print "news" that coincides with that published by the quarreling papers of the upper camps. The pape.s Here have not hesitated when information could be obtained, to tell all that was know about he road, ami here and when the road was going. But this does not suit. The light is on and progresses right merrily, and will continue until the last scraper is dumped, and the last tie laid and the last rail spiked down next fall. And then Hie en lerprising sheets above will lay away their "positive information" unli next spring, when it will once more be paraded to the public in all its original glory.

All but the Sturgis Record, and it will then be out the light, ami in the same position that the Rapid City papers are now. In the meantime the railroad ollicials will continue to build their road according to their ow ideas, just as has been dono heretofore. Fortius summer, a continuous ram of "positive predictions" of more or less accuracy may hi; looked for. The Bittner company leaves to night for Chadron.
