Josephine M. Park CUSTER Josephine M. Park, 92. Custer, died Sunday, December 2, 2001, at the South Dakota Veterans Home in Hot Springs. She was born on a ranch near Presho, South Dakota, September 15, 1909, to Nova and Katie Ann Rabern.

She attended grade school in 1 Presho and high school in Fort Pierre and Presho. In 1930, she married Rollie O. Park of Mitchell, S.D. The couple made their home in Mitchell. In 1943, she joined the Women's Army Corps and was discharged in 1945.

She returned to her home in Mitchell, where she was employed by the Singer Company. In 1950, she and her husband formed the Park General Contracting Company. The firm was a member of the South Dakota Association of General Contractors. The business was discontinued in 1962, at which time the couple moved to Custer, where she continued to reside until 1999. when she moved to Hot Springs.

She was a member of the Custer Community Church, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, and a life member of the American Legion and the DAV. She is survived by one sister, Mary E. Lewandowski, Vancouver, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, two sisters and eight brothers. Visitation was held Monday, December 10, 2001, from 11 a.m.

Survivors include her husband, Orville Fetter, Martin; four sons, James Fetter. Martin, John Fetter, Kadoka, Jack Fetter, Hay Springs, and Roy Fetter, Arizona; three daughters, Alice Harvey, Philip, Opal Hopper, Merriman. and Judy Tallman, Rapid City: 19 grandchildren; 30 greatgrandchildren; three greatgreat-grandchildren; and two brothers, Chester Kimball and Wayne Kimball, both of Mesa, Ariz. 1947, at Kiefer, Oklahoma, the son of Teddy L. and Minnie (Atkinson) Parks. Ted served in the U.S. Navy from 1 June 28, 1965. until April 3, 1972.

He married Dianne Jones on Feb. 20, 1996, at Hill City, S.D. He was currently employed at Toyota of the Black Hills as a master mechanic. He enjoyed camping and especially loved fishing. Survivors include his wife, Dianne Parks, Rapid City; his father, Ted! Parks of Kiefer, Oklahoma; four sons, David Parks and Bryan Parks, both of Rapid City, and Chad Parks and Dustin Parks, Kiefer, Oklahoma; two daughters, Brandie Jones and Amber Underwood, Rapid City; one brother, Fred Parks, Georgia; two grandchildren, Cody and Megan Parks, Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Parks, and a brother, Tom Parks. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. No formal services are planned.

A memorial has been established. Elizabeth Louise 'Betty' Keever PIERRE Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Keever, 71, Pierre, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Pierre. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Klinger, Tucson, and Paula Epperson, Casper, one son, Bill Reiners, Pierre; eight grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. Two husbands, Paul Henry Reiners and Joseph Keever, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Christopher Hummell, Green Bay, one daughter, Angela Schroeder, Appleton, four grandchildren; three stepsons, Dave Struensee, Daniel Struensee and Darwin Struensee; two brothers, Herb Eutsler, Cotter, lowa, and Doug Eutsler, Wapello, lowa; and one half brother, Tom Lawton, Salem, lowa. Her husband, Greg Struensee, preceded her in death.

Helen Hedwig Busch Sande RAPID CITY Helen Hedwig Busch Sande, 92, Rapid City and formerly of Huron, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Rapid City. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Sande, Huron, and Kermit Sande, Reston, one daughter, Mary Christensen, Rapid City; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Andrew H. Sande, preceded her in death. Visitation with family present will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.

12, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at American Lutheran Church in Huron, with the Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Lutheran Church, Huron, or South Canyon Lutheran Church, Rapid City. Raymond R. 'Ray' Quinn RAPID CITY Raymond R. "Ray" Quinn, 76, of Rapid Citv.

died on Saturday. Dec. 8. 2001, at a local nursing home. Ray was born Sept.

29, 1925, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Ralph and Harriet (Angerhofer) Quinn. He attended Aberdeen schools and moved to Rapid City in Raymond 1947 after a Quinn tour in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He married Annie Heupel on June 5, 1949 at Leola. He was a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City. He worked part time at Robbinsdale Bowling Alley in Rapid City for many years and enjoyed bowling. He also served as a coach and manager with little league baseball for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Annie Quinn of Rapid City; two sons, Rodney Quinn and his wife, Diane, and their children, Rachel and Danny, of Fort Collins, Malcolm Quinn and his wife, Lynn and their children, Joe and Cameron of Gillette, one daughter, Carol Huether and her husband, Kevin, and their children, Matt, Myles and Kayla of Rapid City: one sister, Bonnie Gardner of Aberdeen; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and then at the church on Wednesday for one hour before services. Services are set for 1 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Duane Duley and Vicar Thomas Beaverson officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established.

Melvin R. Morris CUSTER Melvin R. Morris, 65, Custer, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Custer Community Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Donna Morris, Custer: two sons, Michel Morris, Ester, Alaska, and Richard Morris, Box Elder; one daughter, Myrna Saber, Coos Bay, two brothers, David Morris, Custer, and Ralph Morris, Boise, Idaho; one sister, Judy Pond, Custer; and one grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Berean Bible Church in Custer, with the Rev. Larry Weidell officiating. A memorial has been established.

Lathem PIERRE Longtime Stanley County rancher Roy M. Lathem, 80, passed away December 8.2001, at St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be held Thursday, December 13, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Pierre with the Rev.

Theodora Bollin officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place at the National Cemetery in Sturgis. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at IsburgHofmeister Funeral Home Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Roy M. Lathem was born November 2, 1921, in Floyd County, Texas, to Marion and Clara (Sluder) Lathem, oldest of four children. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1940. He worked at the W.M. Massy Ranch in Floydada, Texas, until Pearl Harbor, following which he joined the United States Air Force.

Roy spent almost four years stationed in England, France, Belgium and Germany, serving as an airplane electrical mechanic. During his European tour of duty Roy played as an offensive and defensive guard on the Air Force football team, and had the privilege of playing on the European Operations Theatre Championship team when Air Force upset General Eisenhower's Army Headquarters team. Roy returned to the United States in November 1945, working for several years in ranching, logging and trucking. Roy married Loreta (Reta) Stringer on July 20, 1947, in Sandhill, Texas. Following their wedding Roy returned to ranching, working for G.L.

Taylor Cattle Co. at Stratford, Texas, and later, LaVeta, Colorado. While in Colorado he received an associate's degree in agriculture from Trinidad Junior College. In 1952, the Lathems returned to Olton. Texas, where Roy worked with the Olton Butane Co.

until 1956, when he was asked to move to Stanley County, South Dakota, to work at the Billy Barrick Cattle ranches. Roy subsequently became the manager of three of the Barrick ranches until their sale in 1984. In 1978, Roy was recognized by the state of South Dakota for his work in soil conservation. Upon their retirement they moved to Fort Plerre, where Roy became more active in activities of the First Baptist Church, YMCA, Gideons, and developed an extensive reputation for his skills in baking bread. Grateful for having shared his zest for life include his wife, Reta; a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and John Porter of Yankton; three grandchildren, Valerie (Porter) and Russ Hanson of Pierre, Jerime and Cynthia of Rapid City and Zachary of Yankton; and one great-granddaughter, Kylee Quinn Hanson, with whom he loved to share Coke and ice cream; a brother, W.G.

Lathem of Bee Branch, Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Bruce Baumann of Perryton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Sylba Williams of Flint, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ray Lathem; and a sister, Nell Baumann. Memorials may be given in memory of Roy M. Box 251, Pierre, SD 57501. Ralph William Craig RAPID CITY Ralph William Craig of Rapid City passed away December 9 in a local nursing facility following a brief illness. He was born near Quinn. S.D., on November 15, 1910. He attended grade school in Lead.

S.D., and returned to graduate from Quinn High School in 1928. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in Ralph 1934 from the Craig South Dakota School of Mines Technology. He married his sweetheart, Mary Ellen Doran of Fort Pierre, on September 13, 1941. Ralph and Mary Ellen anniversary this past September. He was employed by the South Dakota State Highway Commission in Pierre, S.D., until 1941.

He was associated with Hassenstein Steel Company in Sioux Falls, S.D., prior to and following World War 11. During the war he served as Ship Repair Superintendent with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif. In 1954, Ralph and two associates opened an architectural design firm in Rapid City, S.D., that later became known as Craig Associates, Architects and Engineers. This firm accomplished design plans for many buildings in the Rapid City and West River area of South Dakota during the next 25 years.

Major projects included North Junior High School, the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and the Devereaux Library. Ralph was a visionary, often with ideas far ahead of the times. From the 1950s on, he worked tirelessly to convince Rapid Citians of the benefits of building a Civic Center. He gave many talks with slide presentations showing what a Civic Center had done for other communities. In 1975, his dream for Rapid City became a reality with the opening of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Ralph served as National Alumni President of in 1980 and wrote a sports column for the HARDROCK during the 1970s. He was a charter member of the Rapid City Boys Club and served as president in 1978-79. He also served as director for the Rapid City Girls Club and was a member of the Rushmore Lions Club, the Toastmaster Club, the Elks Club and the First Presbyterian Church. Ralph dearly loved the game of golf. He got a lot of enjoyment from being "Golf Instructor Extraordinaire" for his grandchildren.

They spent many happy hours together on the golf course. Ralph is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his son, William Craig and his wife, Dianne, of Rapid City, S.D.; his daughter, Carole Craig Goehring and her husband, Vern, of Apple Valley, and his son, James Craig and his wife, Becky, of Lusk, Grandchildren include Lee Goehring, Jeff Goehring, Karl Goering, Todd Craig, Jason Craig, Katie Craig and Seth Craig. Great-grandchildren are Carly and Leah Goehring. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at Behrens Funeral Home in Rapid City, S.D.
