Duane enjoyed shooting and hunting as well as being able to teach his Montana nephews the art of farming. His love of children was evident in the patience that he showed and his guiding nature. He particularly loved to kid around with kids and adults alike. He also enjoyed a good old-fashioned visit with his friends and neighbors. Duane was a kind of special person who was always willing to give a neighbor a helping hand, as friends will attest to the times he got them through a pinch by helping them fix their equipment.

He was very knowledgeable about all kinds of farm equipment and was a most accomplished self-taught welder. Anyone who knew Duane could attest to the fact that he was an excellent steward of his lands. Duane always figured every blade of grass, piece of metal or stitch in time could be put to good use and should not be wasted. Second only to his family, he loved farming, haying and anything else he could put his John Deere tractors to good use doing. So much so.
