Sutliff graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School in 1998, Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn, in 2002, and Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in 2004. She is a doctoral candidate and instructor of English at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Benusis graduated from St. Thomas More High School in 1998, South Dakota State University in 2002 and Creighton University School of Dentistry, Omaha, in 2006.

He is a dentist at Kids and Family Dentistry. The couple lives in Rapid City.
