2 CHADRON RECORD Wednesday, Briefs Pine Ridge Hoop Shoot this weekend March Madness is underway in Chadron, with the 11th annual Pine Ridge Hoop Shoot set for this weekend March 28-30. The benefit youth basketball tournament has over 60 teams from four states competing. The games which begin Friday night at 6 p.m. are free, but donations are welcome. Portions of the proceeds will go to the family of James Gooder, a Chadron eighth grade student.

The Chadron team's schedules and locations for Friday's games. are as follows: 5th grade girls vs. Hemingford, 6 p.m., P.A.C North 6th grade girls vs. Porcupine 7 p.m., P.A.C. North 7th grade girls vs.

Rushville 8 p.m., P.A.C. North 8th grade girls vs. Crow Creek 8 p.m., P.A.C. Middle 4th grade boys vs: Hot Springs, 6 p.m., P.A.C. South 5th grade boys vs.

Alliance, 8 p.m., P.A.C. Middle 6th grade boys vs. Gordon, 7 p.m., P.A.C. Middle 7th grade boys vs. Cody, 7 p.m., Armstrong gym 8th grade boys vs.

Custer, 8 p.m., Armstrong gym 4th grade girls vs Porcupine, 9 a.m. (Saturday) Assumption arena. Volunteers are still needed. Anyone who can help can call 432-4584. Blood drive April 4 United Blood Services will hold a blood drive in Crawford on April 4 from 9:30 a.m.

Andrew Hilliker Mar. 26, 2003 The Chadron Record Obituaries Paul Walter Feight Frank Bruce 'Mike' Connelly Dec 29, 1930 Mar 13, 2003 March 17, 1945-March 18, 2003 Paul Walter Feight, 72, of Chadron died March 13, 2003 at Chadron. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 18, at 5 p.m. at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Rev David McCreary officiating.

Paul Feight was born Dec 29, 1930 in Sterling, to Walter Paul and Estella (Wood) Feight. He was a member of RSVP, NWCA and AARP. His survivors include son, Don Feight of Littleton, Charles Feight of Illinois and Kyle Feight of Spokane, daughters, Penny Mortimer of Keokuk, Rhonda Laabs of Las Vegas, and Aneca Snider of Spokane, and 17 grandchildren. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of the arrangements. George "Bud" Moss March 2, 1902-March 17, 2003 George "Bud" Moss, 100, passed away March 17 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance.

Graveside services were March 20 at the Gordon Cemetery with Marvin Blundell officiating. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Health Care Center or to a charity of the donor's choice. George Moss was born March 26, 1902 in Clinton to Charles (Ode) and Lula (Reno) Moss. He attended school in Clinton. He farmed and worked as a mechanic and in construction in Sheridan, Dawes and Box Butte Counties.

He was married to Hazel Tucker in 1923. Together they had one daughter, Sylvia. After Hazel passed away in 1926, he married Bess Drullinger in 1931. He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia Zuver of Chadron, Donna and husband Odey Gregory of Chadron, son, Verle and wife Dorothy Moss of Alliance, 14 grandchildren, 35 greatgrandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, wives Hazel Moss and Bess Moss, granddaughter Vicki Sue Moss, brothers Alfred Moss of Harrington, Eston (Shorty) Moss of Hay Springs, and son-in-law Melvin Zuver of Chadron preceded him in death.

Wanda May Weymouth May 6, 1916-March 18, 2003 Wanda Weymouth died Tuesday March 18 in Hay Springs. A memorial service is being planned. Wanda May Weymouth was born May 6, 1916 to T.A. and Fern Schumacher in Gordon. The family lived in Merriman until 1928 when they moved to a farm seven miles west of Chadron on White River.

She graduated from Chadron Prep in 1933 and from Nebraska State Normal College in 1937. She taught English at Brule High School one year. She married LaVern Weymouth on June 5, 1938. In 1943 he went into the Navy and she followed him to the west coast. She worked in a grocery store until he shipped out.

She returned to Chadron and worked at Ft. Robinson during the war. When he returned they joined Red Owl Corporation and ran grocery stores in Chadron, Rushville and Hot Springs, S.D. They had two children, Monty and Cherie. In 1955 they moved to Chadron to run the Western Auto store.

Together they worked very hard to make it a success and a positive contribution to the community for over 25 years. She has spent the last 15 years battling Alzheimer's and the last five years in the care of Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs. She is survived by her son, Monty (Glenrose) Weymouth of Ft. Collins, Co. and her daughter, Cherie (Jim) Kohler of Troy, her brother John (Jean) Schumacher of Chadron, and sister, June Putman of Gering, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Vern. 'Rally for America' is Saturday A 'Rally for America', sponsored speak. Funeral services were March 24 at St.

John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Loren Pohlmeier officiating. Burial was in the Crawford Catholic Cemetery with military rites provided by the Veterans Honor Guard of Chadron. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice. Connelly was born March 17, 1945 in Crawford to Frank and Jessie (Reed) Connelly. He lived during his youth on the family farm near Whitney.

After graduating from Crawford High School in 1963, he went to work for a construction company where he was trained as a brick mason. Most of this work was in eastern Nebraska. In 1965 he was drafted into the army and was stationed in Korea. Following his discharge in 1967, he returned to construction work. In 1969, he returned to the Crawford area to begin his farming career.

He enjoyed collecting and fixing up antique tractors and many were driven in the 4th of July parades. He also was an avid gun collector. But his favorite pastime was reading and as everyone knows it was hard to win an argument with Mike.

He was active in several organizations including the antique tractor club, Northwest Nebraska Shooters, the N.R.A., the American Legion in which he served as an officer, and St. John the Baptist Church. His survivors include his sisters Colleen Kamas and husband, George of Boulder, Sara Hain of Scottsbluff, Mary Ann Felkins and husband, Glynn of Kimball, brothers, Bill and wife, Merna of Alliance, Tom and wife, Evelyn of Genoa, Tim of Hay Springs; Pat and wife, Irene of Broomfield, Dave and wife, Jeanine of Whitney; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded by his parents and his brother Joe. Bates-Gould Funeral Home of Alliance was in charge of arrange- ments.

Jess E. Patton Jess E. Patton, 24, Porcupine, S.D., died Wednesday, March 19, east of Buffalo Gap, S.D. as the result of an automobile accident. Services will be at 10 a.m.

Wednesday, March 26, at the church hall in Porcupine with the Rev. Franklin Hill officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Porcupine. Iron Horse, both of Chadron; one stepbrother, John Waters, Porcupine; four sisters, Jolene Reyes, North Platte, Jovannah Trujillo, Grand Island, and Katherine Iron Horse and Sonny Iron Horse, both of Chadron; and two stepsisters, Shellie Grinnel, Rapid City, S.D., and Margaret Hernandez, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Survivors include his parents, Lloyd "Tom" Patton, Porcupine, and Loveletta Iron Horse, Chadron; five brothers, Joel Patton, Manderson, S.D., Cy Patton and Beau Patton, both of Porcupine, S.D., and David Iron Horse Jr. and Konrad Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements. William W. Emick July 18, 1920-March 21, 2003 William W. Emick, 82, of Chadron passed 'away on March 21 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, March 25, at Chamberlain Chapel. Emick was born July 18, 1920 in Scottsbluff to W.W. and Julia (Cooney) Emick. He grew up in Minatare, and graduated from Minatare High School in 1938. He married Helen Wood of Torrington, Wyo.

on Nov. 4, 1945. He graduated from Scottsbluff Junior College in 1947. He was employed in the ACE store in Torrington until becoming manager of the Coast to Coast store in Scottsbluff. In 1954 he was made manager of the new Sear catalog store in Scottsbluff and three years later transferred to manage the new store in Lawrence, Kan.

In 1966 he went to work for Wards as the Rocky Mountain District Manager and was based out of Riverton, Wyo. He bought the Gambles store in Chadron in 1968, which he operated until his retirement in 1978. After retiring he kept busy with hobbies and real estate rentals. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. American Legion and VFW.

He was actively involved in the Dawes County Historical Society and the Dawes County Museum. He is survived by his wife Helen; daughter Lois and husband Jim Fauerbach of Emporia, Kan. and Pat of Kansas City, sons Paul of Chadron and Tom and wife Pam of Chadron; sisters of Wilma Floyd of San Luis Obispo, Calif. and Helen Truitt of Claremore, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Emick was preceded in death by his parents, sister Josephine and four brothers-in-law.
